The Sony VPL-PHZ10 is a fixed lens (1.27-1.89:1) with horizontal and vertical lens shift, bright (5000 ansi) native WUXGA resolution (1920 x 1200 pixels, 16:10 aspect ratio) projector featuring a laser light source. Extensive connectivity including dual HDMI inputs as well as a HDBaseT input, the Sony VPL-PHZ10 is immensely flexible in where it can be positioned and what it can connect to.
Having taken a look at the PHZ10 here in our demo room (room blinds left open to simulate an office environment rather than our standard bat cave dark room), the projector got a unanimous thumbs up from all of the team, something that rarely happens! The VPL-PHZ10 produces bright, vibrant, true-to-life images. Using our test disc featuring Disney's Cars, Avatar, The Dark Knight and Book of Eli to name but a few, these movies will show up flaws in a projector's displayed image within a few seconds with regards to colour, black levels and detail. Being a business projector we were not expecting the standards we set for home cinema projectors we test to be achieved by the Sony VPL-PHZ10 as it would be an unfair comparison. Once up and running the PHZ10 looked stunning when looking at Disney's Car with vibrant red, greens, blues and yellows that really popped on screen as well is bright crisp whites. Bearing in mind this is a business projector the colours and motion handling were truly impressive.
The VPL-PHZ10 also produced some of the deepest black levels and certainly some of the brightest, crisp whites we have seen of any business projector to go on test in our demo room. If you wish to display bright, crisp detailed images such as those used by Architects or design agencies the PHZ10 would be a fantastic choice. Vibrant colours, crisp whites, deep blacks, extensive connectivity including HDBaseT and a laser light source makes the Sony VPL-PHZ10 a formidable projector and our projector of choice at this price point for a laser light source projector.
