The First projector series from Sony to utilise the XR Processor for Projector, which enables four powerful picture features, XR Dynamic Tone Mapping, XR Deep Black, XR TRILUMINOS PRO and XR Clear Image to deliver a professional-grade cinematic experience. XR Dynamic Tone Mapping analyses peak brightness frame by frame, and delivers optimal tone mapping, showcasing images with rich gradation, high brightness, and brilliant colours. In addition, XR Deep Black controls powerful laser dimming in dark scenes, bringing deeper blacks while maintaining tone and colour expression. Plus, over a billion colours are brought to life by the XR TRILUMINOS PRO feature and refined by XR Clear Image technology, which upscales all imagery to 4K quality by using a vast database to intelligently recreate lost texture and detail, all while minimising image noise.
Having experienced the Sony Projector 8 first hand at Essential Install Live, we were captivated by its remarkable image quality. The XR Processor’s capabilities were on full display as we watched demo clips from “A Star Is Born.” Even with the film’s deliberate graininess, the projector’s ability to reproduce intricate details, such as the metallic texture of the microphone during the duet, was nothing short of impressive.
When showcasing native 4K content produced and provided by Sony, the projector’s colours were vibrant and lifelike, without appearing oversaturated. Black levels were deep and rich, while whites were bright and punchy.
For gamers, the 4K 120fps at a 12ms input lag plus Auto Low Latency Mode via 2x HDMI 2.1 compatible inputs provides the necessary smooth and clear movement for responsive and immersive gameplay.
Finally, The Sony Projector 8 VPL XW6100ES feature’s an ACF Len’s (Advanced Crisp Focus) with a 70mm aspherical front lens element that widens the focus area, ensuring crystal clear images from corner to corner. The floating focus system uses two moving lens groups and extra-low dispersion glass for distortion-free images with accurate colour reproduction.
