Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you wanted to know about home cinema projectors

What are the most important features to look for in a home cinema projector?

When selecting a home cinema projector, it’s essential to take into account factors such as brightness, high resolution (1080p, UHD & 4K), high contrast ratio, colour accuracy, and the ability to reproduce the full-colour gamut. Moreover, seek out a projector with a broad lens ratio, lens shift, and connectivity inputs that satisfy your requirements. Unsure what model is best suited for you, contact our experts who will be able to advise.

What resolution should I choose for my home cinema projector?

Achieving the best viewing experience at home we would advise opting for a min resolution of 1080p, ideally consider a 4K projector for unparalleled picture quality. With the abundance of 4K content and sources available from streaming and content providers, the possibilities for an immersive home cinema experience are endless.

Do I need a special screen for my home cinema projector?

Achieving the best possible picture quality and brightness is achieved by using a projector screen instead of projecting onto a wall or other surface. Depending on your environment a high gain screen is ideal for rooms with lots of light, while a matte white screen is perfect for darker rooms.

Can I use my home cinema projector for gaming?

Definitely! You can use your home cinema projector for gaming and enjoy a bigger and more engaging gaming experience. Modern projectors typically have various ports to connect gaming consoles, laptops, and PCs. Additionally, many projectors have quick response times, high contrast ratios, and high brightness, ensuring that gamers have an exceptional gaming experience.

Can I connect my home cinema projector to a sound system?

Definitely! It’s possible to elevate your home cinema experience by connecting your projector to a sound system through HDMI ARC, an optical audio cable, or a 3.5mm aux cable. This will provide superior sound quality and immerse you in the action.

How long does the bulb in my home cinema projector last?

The lifespan of your home cinema projector bulb depends on how often you use it. Typically, projector bulbs last between 1,000 and 4,000 hours, but laser light sources can last up to 20,000 hours. To ensure you get the best lifespan, please refer to your projector manual for specific details and instructions. When it’s time to replace the bulb, be sure to follow the recommended guidelines.

How do I know which throw ratio is right for my home cinema projector setup?

If you’re looking for guidance on the right throw ratio for your home cinema projector setup, it’s important to know both the distance between the projector and screen, as well as the image size you intend to project. To make sure you get the best fit for your needs, you can either use our online calculator or connect with our specialists for tailored recommendations on the most appropriate throw ratio for your home cinema projector.

Can I use my home cinema projector during the day or is it better suited for night time use?

The good news is that you can use it during the day, but there are a few things to keep in mind. Home cinema projectors perform optimally in a darker room so, a brighter room may affect the quality of the projected image. To allow for greater flexibility, it’s advisable to select a projector with a higher lumen rating if you plan to use it during the day, or install blackout blinds.

If you’re unsure about the brightness level you need, our sales team can guide you in making the right choice.

Do you know the best distance to sit from a home cinema projector screen?

Determining the ideal distance between the projector screen and the seating arrangement can be challenging. However, we recommend that you position the seats at a minimum distance of twice the width of the projected image and a maximum distance of five times the width of the image (the farthest seat from the screen).

To calculate the minimum comfortable distance, multiply the width of the projector screen by 2. For the maximum distance, multiply the width of the screen by 5.

It’s worth noting that no one enjoys sitting in the front row at the cinema. Although the minimum distance calculated above may seem generous, being just 2 meters away from a 2-meter-wide screen may not feel comfortable, and you may not see the entire projected image.
