Projectorpoint Opinion
The number worth noticing on the ViewSonic LSD300W-ST is 60,000 hours. That is the rating on its LED light source, roughly three times what the laser projectors around it claim, and it comes with no lamp and no colour wheel. As always the figure is measured to the point where output has halved rather than to failure, and it is worth knowing that the UK warranty covers the light source to 20,000 hours rather than the full 60,000, so the two numbers describe different things. The lens is fixed at 0.49:1, putting 100 inches diagonal image from around a metre throw distance to the screen, so the projector sits close enough that nobody standing at the screen is in the light path.
For a classroom this is an easy projector to live with. It weighs 2.85kg, the optical engine is sealed to IP5X so there is no filter to clean, and keystone correction runs to 40 degrees in both directions, which is a far more forgiving range than most projectors offer and useful when the mounting point is dictated by whatever is already in the ceiling. Worth noting there is only one HDMI input and it is version 1.4, so a room with two sources needs a HDMI switch or manually unplug the first source and plug in the second. The speaker is rated at 2W, which is a token gesture for audio and no way near loud enough for a standard size room, so the ViewSonic LSD300W-ST assumes sound comes from an external sound system.
