Having seen the NZ500B at JVC’s launch of the new model at Essential Install Live, our team were keen to see the new iteration of the highly acclaimed (and rightly so!) DLA NZ series. In the bat cave black demo room, 4K content from Spiderman to passengers to custom content provided by JVC was on show to showcase the DLA-NZ500B’s black levels, brightness, colour accuracy and stunning detail.

Unlike pixel-shifting projectors, the DLA-NZ500B natively projects true 4K content at 4096 x 2160 pixels, resulting in images that are remarkably detailed and lifelike. Furthermore, the newly re designed third-generation 0.69-inch D-ILA panels it uses delivers industry-leading black levels that are rich and deep without being crushed and a high native contrast for crips bright whites that are not clipped, further enhancing the immersive viewing experience that JVC home cinema projectors are renowned for.

The DLA-NZ500 produces stunning HDR visuals thanks to their support for HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG formats. Equipped with JVC’s proprietary Gen2 Frame Adapt HDR technology, these projectors analyse each frame in real-time to optimise brightness, colour, and contrast, ensuring a breathtaking viewing experience.

Deep Black Tone Control further enhances image quality by revealing intricate details in shadows without compromising black levels. This technology creates a more immersive and natural viewing experience, especially in dark scenes.

DML (Display Mastering Luminance) is another key feature that ensures HDR content is displayed as intended by the creators. By adjusting the projector’s dynamic range to match the source material, DML guarantees an accurate and faithful representation of the original content.

FILMMAKER MODE is another standout feature of the DLA-NZ500B. This mode is designed to deliver a truly cinematic experience by preserving the director’s original vision. By disabling unnecessary post-processing effects like motion smoothing and maintaining the original aspect ratio, frame rate, and colour profile, FILMMAKER MODE ensures that you’re watching movies exactly as they were intended to be seen. This is a must-have feature for home cinema enthusiasts who appreciate the purity and authenticity of the cinematic art form. Normally we find these types of presets “gimmicky” but this preset lives up to it’s claims.

If you are serious about your home cinema viewing, Put the NZ500B at the top of your shopping list, you wont be disappointed.

Pixel Perfect Resolution with Native 4K Input and 4K D-ILA
Signals input via the 32Gbps 4K/60p HDMI terminal go through the 0.69-inch native 4K D-ILA device to project full native 4K resolution images (4,096 x 2,160 pixels). JVC’s BLU-Escent Laser light source and a native contrast ratio of 40,000:1 achieves images filled with reality.

2,000-Lumen BLU-Escent Laser for Bright Images
JVC’s original BLU-Escent Laser light source designed especially for the DLA-NZ500 is capable of achieving exceptional peak brightness of 2,000 lumens with 20,000 hours of long life. Housed in compact casing, the laser light engine provides higher output, greater efficiency, and quieter operation, making it an excellent solution for demanding home theatre installations.

Fully Motorised 4K Lens
The 1.6x fully motorised zoom & focus, 80-mm 4K lens is capable of projecting high-resolution images to every corner of the screen, while securing wide shift ranges of 70% vertically and 28% horizontally for flexible installation.

Gen2 Frame Adapt HDR offers Deeper Blacks and More
The Gen2 Frame Adapt HDR function instantaneously analyses the different peak brightness per scene or per frame for HDR10 content and performs real-time tone mapping for optimised brightness, colour and details. When combined with each of the following modes including the new Deep Black Tone Control, the projector detects and analyses data contained in HDR sources to project the best of what each source has to offer:
– Deep Black Tone Control subdues tones in dark areas for more realistic darkness.
– DML (Display Mastering Luminance) adjusts/sets the dynamic range to match the image for a much better HDR experience.
– FILMMAKER MODE™ recreates picture quality that is faithful to the original master.

Picture Mode “Vivid”
Made to reproduce SDR content with a narrow dynamic range in more saturated colours with greater vividness, the Vivid mode is excellent for SDR animated works and gaming CGs.
