Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you wanted to know about projector screens

What is the best screen size for my projector?

If you’re wondering about the optimal screen size for your projector, it’s important to consider the size of your room, seating arrangement, content, and brightness of your projector. Typically, for an average-sized room, a screen size ranging between 2m wide to 2.7m wide is ideal. For larger rooms go for a screen size up to 3.5m. Still unsure, feel free to contact our experts who can advise.

Should I go for a fixed screen or a portable one?

When considering which type of screen to choose, it’s important to take into account your specific requirements. Fixed/mounted screens offer an uninterrupted, top-quality image but cannot be moved. Portable screens are easily transportable but may compromise image quality. Prioritise your needs, budget, and space before making a final decision.

What is the difference between a regular screen and a high-gain screen?

A regular screen at 1.0 gain reflects light evenly, while a high-gain screen reflects more light in a specific direction. This results in a brighter image with higher contrast, making high-gain screens optimal for spaces with ambient light however it does narrow down the viewing angle as the trade off so ensure your audience are seated correctly when using a high gain screen material

How do I clean my projector screen?

To clean your projector screen, gently wipe it with a dry, soft cloth or use a microfiber cloth for a deeper clean. Avoid using water or cleaning solutions as these can damage the screen. If necessary, use a screen cleaning solution specifically designed for projector screens.

What kind of aspect ratio should I choose for my projector screen?

To determine the best screen aspect ratio for your projector, consider its native resolution and the type of content you will be showcasing. For movies and TV shows, a 16:9 screen is recommended, while a 16:10 screen may be better for presentations and data. Make sure to check your projector’s native aspect ratio and select a screen that matches or exceeds it.

How do I install a motorised projector screen?

Mounting a motorised projector screen is a straightforward process. Ensure that it is securely mounted and that the power is connected correctly. For detailed instructions, refer to the manual. If you require assistance, professional help is readily available.

Can I use my regular white wall as a projector screen?

Whilst, you can absolutely use a regular white wall as a projector screen. It’s worth keeping in mind, though, that the image quality and brightness may not be as good as with a dedicated projector screen. If you’re looking for the best possible performance, we recommend using a screen specifically designed for this purpose.

Do you know the best distance to sit from a home cinema projector screen?

Determining the ideal distance between the projector screen and the seating arrangement can be challenging. However, we recommend that you position the seats at a minimum distance of twice the width of the projected image and a maximum distance of five times the width of the image (the farthest seat from the screen). To calculate the minimum comfortable distance, multiply the width of the projector screen by 2. For the maximum distance, multiply the width of the screen by 5. It’s worth noting that no one enjoys sitting in the front row at the cinema. Although the minimum distance calculated above may seem generous, being just 2 meters away from a 2-meter-wide screen may not feel comfortable, and you may not see the entire projected image.
