    The introduction of 4K Ultra HD has created a vast challenge to installers and integrators as it stipulates a requirements for a higher than 10.2Gbps. To display the fullest and most complete 4K Ultra HD features, a transmission system requires a minimum of 11.1Gbps .

    To fully benefit from the rich wide colour gamut offered by the REC2020 standard content must be transmitted at 10bit colour depth. Current transmission methods such as standard active HDMI cables and HDbaseT are offering a limit of 10.2Gbps capacities which fall short of the ability to display 10bits at 60Hz. The lack of bandwidth has very significant implication to compatibility with the latest OLED, LED and projectors. In many instances the use of HDbaseT or HDMI1.4 connections will result in lack of any image on the screen regardless of the refresh rate chosen.

    In addition to the connectivity limitations the 8bit image will be significantly poorer than that of a 10bit image as it is using a far reduced (6,250% lesser than 10bits) pallet of pigments to create colours and contrasts on the screens.
