Work is due to begin on a brand new three-screen independent cinema in Brighton’s Komedia building, complete with some of the most up-to-date projection technology.

All three of the screens at the new Duke of York’s Picturehouse venue will be kitted out with digital projection systems, with the highest quality screens, in order to provide optimum picture quality.

The innovative collaborations between Komedia and Picturehouse Cinemas aims to allow viewers to watch less mainstream films on screens with the same quality and capability as bigger picture houses.

The General Manager of the Duke of York’s Picturehouse, John Barrenechea, said that the space in Komedia was perfect for them, and will allow them to fulfil expansion plans that they have been thinking about for a number of years.

“We’ve been looking for an opportunity to expand the cinema for years, and with Komedia we think we have found the perfect home,” he told the Creative Boom website. “All the things you have come to know and love at the Duke of York's over the last 100 years will now be available at two great venues in Brighton.”

The three screens will have capacities of 149, 110 and 32, and there will also be a café/bar in the facility.
