At the end of 2017, we came up with a list of predictions about what we thought the big trends in 2018 home cinema projection technology will be. Our main forecast was that 4K technology will get bigger, better and more accessible – making great projector technology accessible to a wider audience. And without tooting our own horn, it seems barely two weeks into 2018 we’re already being proved right.
As if 2018 wasn’t already off to a great start, we are extra excited to announce that the very first BenQ W1700 projectors to hit the UK market are available right here at Projectorpoint this January. These projectors bring the fantastic benefits of 4K technology to your home cinema for under £1,500. If that’s not a top start to the year, then we don’t know what is.
What’s all the fuss about 4K?
We might have spent most of 2017 talking about 4K projection technology, but for many people out there, it’s still a technology they’re yet to adopt as it’s been price prohibitive. Until now.
The new BenQ W1700 projector brings this premium technology firmly within the realm of ‘affordable’. It does this without breaking the bank by creating pixel-shifted HD images to create the 4K resolution. It’s not genuine native 4K on the panel, but trust us when we say the trick it plays on your eyes are so good it’s incredibly difficult to differentiate this on screen.
Impeccable quality from the BenQ W1700
As well as its stunning resolution, the BenQ W1700 also offers the following features worth highlighting:
- Brightness of 2,200 lumens
- Native 16:9 aspect ratio
- 2X zoom ratio
- 10,000:1 contrast ratio
- Standard lamp life of 4,000 hours
- 2kg in weight
- Flexible support for high dynamic-range imaging (HDR)
Connectivity and accessibility
The BenQ W1700 is designed to connect seamlessly with your existing home cinema setup and the unit also features two HDMI connections, meaning it can be easily connected to multiple sources simultaneously which is useful if it’s not in a permanent home cinema setup.
For videos of standard HD resolution or lower, the projector is also 3D enabled. For movie purists, this may not be a massive selling point but it’s nice to have the box ticked – even if it’s a novelty for the kid’s movies or games.
