Sony's new high-end 3D projector, the VPL-VW90ES, is its first ever model to carry its Elevated Standard (ES) badge, combining impeccable 3D capabilities with industry-leading 2D quality.
The projector has a range of outstanding features, beginning with a staggering 150,000:1 contrast ratio that allows for pristine viewing of high-detail video, such as sporting events. The most technically intricate films can be viewed with no blurred motion or the slightest hint of stepping of pixels.
Its features also include 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and brightness of 1,000 ANSI lumens, which give outstanding shadow effect details and colour contrast. The VPL-VW90ES has an electronically adjustable lens shift, 10-bit colour delivery, multiple cinema modes and a host of standard Sony projector features.
For 3D viewing, the brand uses its successful frame-sequential projection technology, which lends an added clarity to the pictures, making them even more lifelike. Its 3D Depth Adjustment tool has come in for particular praise, allowing users to adjust image ghosting and clean up 'static' images.
The projector comes equipped with two sets of 3D glasses but has the added bonus of being compatible with third-party glasses as well.
The projector has a 1.6x zoom lens, and the immersion in the cinematic experience that it creates is not disturbed by the ultra-low 20dB volume of the fan.
