Sony has showcased its new Sony VPL-VW1000ES home projector at the CEATEC event in Japan.
The projector was announced back in September but this is the first time experts have had chance to see it in detail. It was a surprise for some that the projector should be unveiled at CEATAC as historically Sony has used the event to preview brand new innovations only.
It is not the first 4K projector from Sony; in fact, Sony can be seen as the company responsible for seeing 4K projectors really get off the ground. Over 10,000 of these projectors have now been sold and a number of movies have been filmed using the format.
Sony says that the VPL-VW1000ES is 4K with a resolution of 4,096 x 2,160. It has a brightness of 2,000 ANSI lumens and a 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast. The projector also includes a feature which allows users to watch Blu-Ray films in upscaled 4K as well as HD 3D movies.
Experts at TechRadar suggest that when the Sony VPL-VW1000ES home projector is released in the UK it will retail for around £20,000, whilst it’s going on sale in Japan later in the year for around £14,000.
