Sony launches world's first wireless home cinema AV receiver

Sony has unveiled the world’s first wireless AV receiver for home cinema systems, which allows users to stream content from computers and other storage devices without cumbersome cables.

The STR-DN1030 AV Receiver is a powerful 7.2 channel device that immerses users in the full dynamic range of modern movie soundtracks, providing an impressive 120 watts per channel.

Sony has said that the receiver “fuses form and function” with its built-in WiFi capabilities, while also offering five HDMI ports, and HD Digital Cinema Sound and Advanced Digital Cinema Auto Calibration technology.

Naoto Yoshioka, the home audio video senior product manager at Sony Europe, said that the STR-DN1030 permits viewers to hear the films they are watching exactly as the directors intended.

“To create true cinematic audio, the STR-DN1030 uses HD Digital Cinema Sound, a specialised technology developed by our Sony Pictures team from careful study of Hollywood sound stage recordings,” he explained. “Sony Pictures have won 12 Academy Awards for Best Picture, so they know about creating amazing quality sound for the movies.”

The wireless capability of the receiver also allows users to access the Sony Entertainment Network, featuring more than 15 million songs and internet radio from thousands of stations around the world.
