Sales of 3D-capable front projectors to rise five-fold by 2014
Recent research has predicted that 5.4 million 3D-capable front projectors will be ordered in 2014, which is roughly five times as many as this year.
Pacific Media Associates, which tracks the front projector display market, said that, whilst some analysts see the education market as the focal point for these displays, they view it slightly differently.
Dr. William Coggshall of Pacific Media Associates said, "With education budgets under severe constraints these days, I see the consumer market as the source for much of the growth.
“From gaming to home theatre, 3D-capable projectors may be able to compete dollar-for-dollar with large flat panel solutions,” he added.
Mr Coggshall also expects that, as the available content and distribution sources increase, more and more consumers will take advantage of the feature that allows them to use the projectors for 3D content, although many of them will not be used for that type of content at first.
“With all the emphasis given to flat panel displays, it’s easy to forget about front projection systems as they are not as convenient, as you need to manage light more effectively,” he added.
But, as more and more customers require larger and larger images, the front projectors may be able to offer affordable solutions.
