A new device is in development which would mean that Instagram images, so far confined to computers and phones, could be converted into 35mm film and projected.

The device is called Projecteo and its developers are currently seeking investment on crowdfunding site KickStarter.

Users will be able to upload their Instagram pictures online and have them turned into 35mm film. Each photo is turned into one frame of 35mm Kodak film stock and is cut into a circle to fit on an image wheel which goes neatly into the Projecteo projector.

The projector itself is described as being “the size of a matchbox” but because slide film has no pixels, the quality of the image is said to be excellent.

The developers write on KickStarter, “Projecteo has been designed so you can disassemble it. This will not only make them easier to recycle but it means you can pull it open and see what's going on inside. There, you will find super bright LED, capacitors and resistors, a switch, a decade counter and three batteries. Feel free to hack away! We can't wait to see your creations.”

The developers say that if they receive funding, the device could be out early next year,
