The global reach of the consumer and business projector market has been highlighted by new figures from India, indicating a year-on-year growth in the projector market.

Overall projector sales in India in 2011 topped 1.9 million units, with demand from education institutions and small businesses fuelling very strong sales figures, according to the report, which was published by consumer intelligence firm, CyberMedia Research.

Lead Analyst at CyberMedia, Sumanta Mukherjee, explained, “The Education sector emerged as the key demand driver for the India digital projector market with the steady countrywide adoption of modern teaching aids (like smartboards), and new technologies (such as PCs and digital projectors) by educational institutions in the last 2 to 3 years.”

He added, "Private educational institutions, starting with the K12 school segment, science and engineering colleges and management institutes have taken the lead in this area."

Leading projector brand, Epson, emerged as the leader in Indian projector sales, with a market share of 13 per cent. The next most popular brands were BenQ and InFocus, both with a market share of around 11 per cent.

LCD projectors made up around 55 per cent of the total unit shipments while XGA projectors accounted for 54 per cent of the market.
