A high end home cinema projector system has been announced by Sony as part of a range of new products designed to deliver an “immersive home entertainment experience”.

The company unveiled its products at the 2011 CEDIA Expo. Mike Abary, senior vice-president of the company's home division, explained that the firm's new Elevated Standard (ES) line and other new products “epitomise innovation, quality and style”. He added that Sony is working to deliver dedicated support and training for the products that will outperform that of the competition.

Among the new high-end products is the VPL-VW1000ES 4K home theatre projector model, which is specifically designed to meet the needs of custom installers and will provide over four times the resolution of HDTV.

It provides 2,000 AINSI lumens of brightness, which is nearly twice the output of previous Sony home theatre projectors. This makes it suitable for screen sizes of up to 200 inches diagonally.

However, not all content is originally produced to such high specifications, so the exclusive 4K 'upscaler' will really come into its own by enhancing all content to allow viewers to watch it in 4K playback. This option is available with SD, HD, 2D and 3D content.
