A new report has highlighted the growth of the projector industry in the second quarter of 2014.

According to the latest quarterly research from Futuresource Consulting, global projector shipments were up by 17 per cent in volume year-on-year between April and June.

In value terms, the market was revealed to have expanded by nine per cent to hit $2.4 billion (£1.4 billion), with the football World Cup cited as one of the top reasons for the strong growth.

Claire Kerrison, market analyst at Futuresource Consulting, explained North America and Western Europe were two of the regions to see particularly impressive growth in the projector industry.

She said: "Several vendors used the event as a vehicle to highlight the ever-decreasing price of 1080p, sales of which increased 63 per cent year-on-year in home display applications to 142,000 units."

The report from Futuresource Consulting comes only a short time after research published by MarketsandMarkets suggested that the total pico projector market will generate revenue of $10.09 billion by 2020. Pico projectors are becoming particularly popular due to their portability.
