Market analysis of the global projector market has shown that worldwide shipments of projectors have seen a year-on-year rise of 3.5 per cent in the second quarter of this year – and an even greater 11.4 per cent rise on the first quarter figures.

The figures, published by market research company Futuresource, indicated that the European Cup football tournament had had a particularly positive effect on projector sales, with Eastern Europe performing particularly well. The analysis highlighted the fact that SVGA is proving a cost effective solution for venues such as pubs and bars to screen live sports events.

A Futuresource spokesman said, “After a reasonable start to calendar year 2012, the projectors market (excluding pico) had another solid quarter, bolstered by strong demand in the corporate and home markets of western Europe as Poland and Ukraine played host to the European Football Championships.”

The statistics also showed that the UK performed particularly well in the quarter, with year-on-year growth of 13.2 per cent, with a total of 62,100 units sold.

“Good run-rate business in education and corporate markets [in the UK] was complemented by strong demand from football fans for dedicated home cinema projectors, with volumes up 45.6 per cent on Q2 2011 at 5,800 units and a nine-quarter peak in demand for SVGA product,” the company added.
