The brand new Epson EH-TW5300 is an affordable LCD projector that is aimed at the home entertainment industry.
The new unit’s key features include 2,200 lumens of brightness, full HD resolution, mobile phone connectivity and 3D playback capabilities.
The projector fits perfectly on a coffee table due to its relatively small model size in comparison to usual projector standards, and it’s easy on the eye, thanks to its curved, rounded edges and glossy finish.
It comes with an excellent amount of connections, including two HDMI ports, a VGA input and a USB 2.0 port, which can be used to connect to the model to USB storage devices, as well as digital cameras.
The full brightness setting comes at 2,200 lumens, as mentioned above, although this drops to 1,500 lumens under the Eco lamp setting and this applies to both colour and white light.
Regarding picture quality, high definition is provided, offering crisp and detailed images. This will allow darker scenes to be enjoyed, which is typically the most complained about issue when it comes to affordable LCD projectors.
This clarity extends to the projector’s motion reproduction, which looks clean — it’s only troubled by quite natural amounts of judder. If you wish, you can remove judder almost entirely by using the Epson EH-TW5300’s Frame Interpolation system on its mid or high setting (more on this below).
The new projector supports 3D playback if the consumer buys additional 3D glasses and playback is backed by a 480Hz driving system to reduce ghosting noise.
It’s worth noting that one of the most surprising features about the Epson EH-TW5300 is the Frame Interpolation processor. This feature is aimed at calculating the extra frames of video in order to remove too much judder.
