Some are saying it's no more than an attempt to overshadow search giant Google and its Nexus One handset, but rumours abound that the highly anticipated iSlate tablet from Apple will feature a built-in projector, in addition to an integrated iSight camera and 120GB hard drive.

According to apparently leaked documents from the iPhone manufacturer, the iSlate will also boast a 7.1-inch capacitive touchscreen with an anti-fingerprint coating, a 2.26Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, improved Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Whether it turns out to include a projector or not, it's believed the multimedia gadget will make its debut later this month, though it won't be shipped until March.

Insiders say the iSlate is aimed at letting users watch films and TV shows, play games, surf the web and read electronic books and newspapers on the one device. The latter may be presented through colour screens, with live, up-to-the-minute information integrated from various sources.

All eyes are now on San Francisco's Yerba Buena Centre for the Arts, where Apple is thought to have booked a few days at the end of January to unveil details - possible inbuilt projector, camera and the rest - of the tablet.
