Hardware Design

BenQ’s ISF-trained expert engineers tried more than 20 different combinations of color segments and color wheel coating, the factors that directly affect color gamut and brightness of a projector.

Software Optimization

To maximize color accuracy, the process of software optimization involved adjusting the blacks, whites and greys towards D65 defined by Rec. 709. And the three primary and three secondary colors were adjusted one by one, until they were as close as possible to the references on the Rec. 709 color gamut.

Production Line Quality Control

Three color adjustment stations in the production line perform final checks on every single unit of our Rec. 709 projectors. Using exclusive BenQ color adjustment procedures, we make sure each projector is manufactured according to the Rec. 709 color standard, and BenQ quality engineers perform final color tests on each projector built to ensure Rec. 709 performance.

Dynamic Black Technology with Active Iris Control for Intelligent Contrast Optimization

Active iris controls the amount of light passing through the optical system to optimize contrast performance according to the scene. Dynamic Black™ technology analyzes the brightness levels of the scene to ideally adjust light output and contrast. Working to bring out subtle details in dark shadows and preventing bright scenes from becoming washed out, W11000 delivers impressive contrast for true black rendition and amazing picture depth, details, and clarity.

Special Black-Paint Sealed Light Engine

BenQ takes extra countermeasures to guard against the small possibility of stray light leakage from the light tunnel affecting contrast and obscuring fine details, a special black paint seals the W11000 light engine to boost contrast and render even the slightest details in the darkest scenes.

4K Pixel Enhancer

4K Pixel Enhancer is a motion-adaptive edge enhancement feature that detects changes in color between an object and its background to produce sharp edges and precise surface textures.

Color Enhancer

Color Enhancer modulates complex color algorithms to flawlessly render saturated colors, fine gradients, intermediate hues and subtle pigments.

Flesh Tone

The Flesh Tone feature prevents discoloration of skin tones from the light of the projection beam, portraying every skin tone in its most beautiful shade.

Ultra-Wide 2.35:1 Anamorphic Format for Genuine Cinema Experience

Once up and running with native 4K UHD content we ran the W11000 in THX preset in our bat cave dark demo room. The image produced was very impressive indeed. We decided to drop down to eco setting from normal as the image was ever so slightly bright for prolonged periods of watching. Other than that change we felt no other adjustments were required apart from a few notches down on the brightness setting to 47.

In a side by side against the Sony VW260ES which for us is the reference model at this price point, the BenQ W11000 really did hold its own for colour saturation, black levels and clarity of image.
