Sony’s VPL-VW95ES 3D projector has been hailed as a valuable investment for serious cinema fans, offering everything they could want in a home cinema projector.
The model weighs around 11kg, so is built for static installation, but can be made the centrepiece of an impressive home cinema system. It features Sony’s SXRD projection, the proprietary version of liquid crystal silicon (LCOS), which creates images of up to 300-inches on the diagonal from a distance of seven metres.
The lens is fully motorised, allowing for the adjustment of the zoom, lens shift and focus with the projector’s remote control. The controls also allow for customised lens settings to be programmed, stored and easily accessed for different situations.
The projector’s connectivity includes two HDMI ports, one component and one VGA ports, as well as an RJ45 connector for an external 3D transmitter.
The VPL-VW95ES has a high dynamic contrast ratio of 150,000:1, which creates very colourful images, accommodating the projector’s relatively low brightness of 1,000 ANSI lumens.
The model is built into a streamlined smooth, elliptical design and Sony provides two pairs of 3D glasses with the projector to allow for easy home 3D viewing.
